Hoods and trunk lids are straightforward to remove. They are held in place by hinge bolts and sometimes a prop rod or gas strut. Before pulling, check for dents, paint condition, and rust underneath. Hoods for trucks and SUVs tend to be larger and heavier, so bring a helper.
Fenders bolt to the body at the firewall, the inner fender well, and along the top near the hood. Removing a fender typically requires removing the front bumper cover, headlight assembly, and any splash guards first. Inspect the mounting holes and edges for rust before pulling.
Front and rear bumper assemblies are available including the impact bar, bumper cover, fog lights, and mounting brackets. Plastic bumper covers are lightweight and easy to pull. Metal impact bars are heavier but just as straightforward to remove with basic hand tools.

Know your generation. Manufacturers refresh body styles every few years. A 2014 and a 2017 of the same model may look similar but use different panel shapes. Look up your vehicle's body style generation before you visit to know which years are interchangeable.
Check the paint code. Your vehicle's paint code is usually on a sticker on the driver door jamb, inside the glove box, or under the hood. Bring this code with you and look for donor vehicles with the same code. An exact match means less work and cost at the paint shop.
Inspect before you pull. Walk around the donor vehicle and look at the panel you want from every angle. Check for dents, scratches, rust, and filler. Run your hand across the surface to feel for imperfections you might miss visually. Check underneath and behind the panel for hidden damage.
Even with a matching paint code, colors can vary slightly due to age, sun exposure, and manufacturing batch differences. If the panel you find is a close but not perfect match, most body shops can blend the surrounding panels for a seamless result. In many cases, buying a used panel and having it professionally color-matched is still far cheaper than buying a new panel from the dealer.
If you cannot find your exact color, consider pulling a panel in any color and having the body shop paint it to match. A used panel in good structural condition but the wrong color is still a major savings over buying new.
Bring a blanket or moving pad to set panels on after removal. This prevents scratches on the paint surface. Disconnect all wiring and fasteners before trying to lift a panel off. For doors, support the weight before removing the last hinge bolt. For bumper covers, look for hidden clips along the edges and in the wheel wells. You may also want to grab matching headlights or taillights while you are at the yard. Take photos of the fastener locations before you start so you know how to reinstall everything on your vehicle.
